The Love of THE Truth

The Love of the Truth

by Bob & Suzanne Hamrick

NOTE 1: In obedience to His commands as recorded for us in the Christian Bible, we use the Creator’s Self-given Hebrew Name, YHVH, (pronounced Ye-hu’-ah) and the Hebrew name actually given by YHVH through the angel Gabriel (Matthew 1:21) to be the Messiah’s name, Yeshua, (pronounced Ye-shu’-ah) which means “he will save” (Strong’s H3442). We also use El or Elohim (capitalized) as a title for our Father YHVH where appropriate, instead of “God”. Finally, we refer to what Christianity calls the “Old Testament” as the Tanakh, the Hebrew name for it, and to the “New Testament” as the Renewed Covenant Scriptures. Details on request.

NOTE 2: The word generally translated as “the Law” in the “Old Testament” of the King James and most other modern Bibles is the Hebrew word hrt Torah, which actually means “teaching” or “instruction”. In the “New Testament”, “the Law” is translated from the Greek word nomoς nomos, which we take as being synonymous with “Torah” for all intents and purposes. Torah may refer to either the first five books of the Tanakh (“Old Testament”), also called the Pentateuch, or to the entire body of commandments contained in the Tanakh: Torah, the Prophets, and the Writings. Most Rabbinic Jews also mean “Torah” to include their so-called “oral Law/Torah”, i.e., the Talmud, Zohar, Kabballah, Mishneh Torah, etc. Since much of their “oral law” contradicts the explicit commandments of God in the written Torah, we reject it and any arguments based on it.

Dear Christian:

In January of 2009, after a lifetime (birth through retirement age) of holding certain standard beliefs about the Christian religion, we were confronted with contradictory information which we could not refute, not from Scripture, nor from secular history, nor even from simple logic. This article is the result of that encounter. The issues are salvational, so we pray that you will read it through, and carefully consider what we say here. We encourage you to contact us for more information.

We are all warned . . .

In 2 Thessalonians 2: 7-12, the Apostle Sha’ul (“Paul”) warns us that the end times (which we consider to be upon us) will be characterized by universal deception and false teachers, and that for us to attain the prize of immortality in the coming Kingdom of God on earth, the only way to escape the fatal consequences of false beliefs is to have a love of the truth, if we are to be saved. He also warns us that the Father Himself will delude those who do NOT love His Truth (as expressed through the written Torah and His Son Yeshua)! Could this BE any more important? Here is Sha’ul:

7 For the mystery of lawlessness (Greek: anomiaTorah-lessness) is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way.

8 And then the lawless one (the Anti-Christ) will be revealed, whom the Lord Yeshua will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming.

9 The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders,

10 and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

11 Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false,

12 in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

This article examines the consequences to those who mistakenly believe, as we did, that they are “saved” because they faithfully follow the teachings of a “Christian” denomination, whether Catholic, Protestant, Seventh Day Adventist, Mormon, Jehovah’s Witnesses, etc., or trust in specific preachers, such as Rick Warren, Joel Osteen, Joyce Meyer, John Hagee, Charles Stanley, D. James Kennedy, Kenneth Copeland, Keith Moore, the “Reverends” Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, or whomever.

What we discovered is that there is ONE specific belief commonly held by the overwhelming majority of those who call themselves “Christians”, which belief – according to the Bible – will guarantee that none of them are or will be saved, unless they repent.

The specific issue is the supposed deity of “Jesus Christ”/Yeshua of Nazareth.

His Father denied it, he denied it, and all of his disciples denied it, yet this is the central way in which the teachings of all of these man-made religions actually differ from the actual teachings of our Lord Yeshua and ALL of his disciples, as recorded in the Bible, and as we show herein.

This is THE CENTRAL DECEPTION of Satan which has already resulted in the loss of the billions of “Christians” who have gone to their graves believing this “doctrine of demons”. It will continue to work in the same fashion for all who hear the truth, but do not have that LOVE of it that Sha’ul describes as being essential! And it is precisely that love of the truth that our Lord was describing in his parables:

Mat 13:44 The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

Mat 13:45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls,

Mat 13:46 who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

One must first be willing to listen to doctrines that are at odds with what one already holds as true. Next, one must able to recognize God’s truth when one sees it. But then, one must be willing to pay whatever price is required to live it. In many cases (we speak from personal experience) it will involve the loss of fellowship of family and friends, and the need to abandon lifetimes of practices and comfortable traditions, most of which have very pleasant memories and associations. No matter. To this point, our Lord Yeshua knew exactly what he was saying in Matthew 10:32-39:

32 So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven,

33 but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.

34 Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.

35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

36 And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household.

37 Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

38 And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.

39 Whoever finds his life (runs it his or her own way) will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake (surrenders to Yeshua’s Lordship) will find it.

So, let us investigate for ourselves just what Scripture actually says about the identities of the Father and of His only begotten (born of a human mother) Son, our Lord Yeshua, no matter what we may have believed prior to this.

The Testimony of Scripture . . .

Leaving ZERO interpretive “weasel room”, the following verses absolutely contradict the concept of the deity of Yeshua, or of anyone else but the Father, YHVH Elohim:

First, the words of YHVH Elohim (“the LORD God”) on the subject:

(1 Samuel 15:29; Job 9:32; Hosea 11:99) God is not a man.

(Numbers 23:19) God is not man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: (But Yeshua is called “the Son of man” 85 times in the King James Bible!)

(Isaiah 42:8)I am YHVH; that is My name; My glory I yield to no other, nor My praise to carved idols.

(Isaiah 43: 10-11) “You are My witnesses, says YHVH, and My servant whom I have chosen: that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He: before Me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after Me.” I, even I, am YHVH; and except for Me there is no savior.”

(Isaiah 44:24) “Thus says YHVH, your Redeemer, and He that formed you from the womb, I am YHVH Who makes all things; Who stretches forth the heavens alone; Who spreads abroad the earth by Myself;

(Isaiah 45:18) “For thus says YHVH Who created the heavens; Elohim himself Who formed the earth and made it; He has established it, He created it not in vain, He formed it to be inhabited: I am YHVH; and there is none else.”

Next, the words of our Lord Yeshua on the same subject:

(John 17:3) And this is life eternal, that they might know You (Father YHVH) the ONLY TRUE GOD, and Yeshua HaMashiach, whom You have sent.”

(Mark 12:29) And Yeshua answered him, “The foremost of all the commandments is, ‘Hear, O Israel; YHVH is our God, YHVH is one:’ (Quoting the “Shema” from Deuteronomy 6:4 – “Shema Yisroel, YHVH Eloheinu, YHVH echad.”, NOT one of the Ten Commandments. )

(Mark 12:32) And the scribe said unto him, “Well, Rabbi, you have said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but He:”

(John 14:28) “the Father is greater than I.”

(John 17:11)“And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through your own name those whom You have given me, that they may be one, as we are.” [How can we “sons of Man” be “one”/echad as Yeshua and the Father are, if they are “really” God, parts of a 3-in-1 trinity?]

(Revelation 3:14) “And to the angel of the church in Laodicæa write: ‘The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God.’” Here, the glorified Lord Yeshua even describes himself as a created being!

Next, the misunderstood words of the Apostle Thomas:

(John 20:28) “My Lord and my god.”

[FYI, “my god” (lower case “g”) was an Hebraic term of respect by one person recognizing another’s vastly superior status. It was never used as indicating deity, unless specifically addressed to YHVH Elohim. The Apostle Sha’ul clarifies this point precisely in 1 Corinthians 8:5-6, below.]

Next, the words of the the Apostle Sha’ul (“Paul”):

(1 Corinthians 8:5-6) For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth – as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords” – yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.

(Ephesians 4:6)one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”

(1 Timothy 2:5) For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Yeshua Messiah;

Next, the testimony of the Apostle Ya’acov (“James”):

(James 2:19) You believe that there is one God; you do well: the demons also believe, and tremble.

The testimony of the angel Gabriel:

(Luke 1:35) And the angel answered and said unto her, “The Ruach hakodesh shall come upon you, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow you: for that reason (his miraculous conception by the power of YHVH) also that holy thing which shall be born of you shall be called the Son of God.

[ NOTE: “The Son of God” was a specific title reserved in Hebraic thought for the Promised One, the Messiah. It is used 42 times in the Renewed Covenant Scriptures (“New Testament”), and all but one of those refer to Yeshua. The sole exception is another insertion by the King James translators in Luke 3:38, and refers to Adam, as the first human being created by YHVH Elohim. Note that the angel did NOT say, “God the Son”, a concept which appears nowhere in Scripture.

Please note also that the holy Spirit is here identified as the manifestation of the power of YHVH operating in the physical world, and NOT as a separate “Person”. If the holy Spirit were a separate Person (i.e., 1/3 of a “trinity”), then according to Luke 1:35 “He” would have been Yeshua’s Father, and not The Father, YHVH Elohim!]

The prophecy of Moses:

(Deuteronomy 18:15)YHVH Elohim will raise up unto you a Prophet from the midst of you, of your brethren, like unto me; him you shall obey.” [Was Moses God? Or a man?]

The prophecy of King David:

(Psalm 110:1)<A Psalm of David.> YHVH (“The LORD”) said unto my Lord , Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.

[NOTE: The “my Lord” above is the Hebrew word adoni, a term always used of NON-deity, as opposed to Adonai, a term always used of God only. Adoni appears 287 times in the King James “Old Testament”, and it never refers to God.]

Yeshua even claimed that this clearly messianic prophecy referred to him in Matthew 22:45 and Luke 20:44! This is just one more block of evidence that the Jews NEVER expected that HaMashiach would BE God/deity! Yeshua was accepted by many of the righteous Jews of his day PRECISELY BECAUSE HE FIT THE COMPLETE PATTERN OF (i.e., he FULFILLED) ALL of the messianic prophecies in the Hebrew Scriptures perfectly!

Moreover, ALL “New Testament” verses which seem to support the concept of the deity of Yeshua, or of the “Holy Spirit” as a separate “Person”, or of a “trinity” are ALL discovered to have been either:

(a) post-apostolic insertions, none of which can be found in any existing texts prior to the 4th Century A.D.; or,

(b) MIStranslations, based on either a faulty understanding of the Hebrew culture and idioms (figures of speech), or (worse) a manifest intention to mislead!

Primary among these insertions are Matthew 28:19 & 1 John 5:7:

(Matthew 28:19) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:” The so-called “church father”, Eusebius of Cæsaræa (AD 263-339), quoted Matthew 28:19 seventeen times in his writings, which are extensive. In MOST of those citations, he quotes the risen Lord Yeshua as saying, “baptizing them in my name.” This identical form of the verse also appears in the Shem Tov Hebrew Gospel of Matthew.

(1 John 5:7) “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” This has been so widely recognized as a later insertion, that it has been removed from almost all modern translations.

Unfortunately, this has seldom kept those who would seek to defend Trinitarianism &/or the “deity” of “Jesus Christ” from citing it as a “proof” of their beliefs, even when they are aware of the above. This kind of intellectual dishonesty is an indictment, not only of their willingness to bear false witness against the holy Spirit of YHVH, the inspiration of all true Scripture, but also of the spirit which is behind their arguments.

It must also be noted that ALL such insertions which have been discovered to date in the text of the “New Testament” are those which support the “deity” of “Jesus Christ” &/or trinitarianism. NO such insertion or altered translation has been discovered in the other direction, i.e., in support of the 100% humanity of the Messiah, and the exclusively monotheistic, unitarian nature of the Father, YHVH Elohim, as all of (unaltered) Scripture declares. Does this suggest anything to you? It does to us.

So, having established from the relevant unaltered Scriptures that the deity of “Jesus Christ” is nowhere expressed, but only inferred by those desperately seeking it, we must now ask how those who believe that “Jesus Christ” IS God (deity) are not committing idolatry according to the Word of YHVH Elohim? In other words, if “Jesus Christ” is NOT God, then what does that necessarily make all those who believe that he IS God, and worship him AS God? There is only one possible answer to this question: Idolaters.

1. What is idolatry?

The worship of a false god. That is, the worship of anything or anyone as the Creator God of the Bible, which is not the one true God as described therein, YHVH Elohim.

2. What does the one true God of the Bible say about idolatry?

The First Commandment: “I am YHVH your God, Who has brought you out of the land of Egypt. You shall have no other gods except Me.Exodus 20:2-3

3. What is sin?

Sin is disobedience to the Law/Torah (1 John 3:4), which surely includes all of the Ten Commandments at an absolute minimum.

4. What is the penalty for unrepented sin?

The wages of sin is death. Romans 6:23 (This refers to “the second death”, which is annihilation in the Lake of Fire at the Last Judgment. – Revelation 21:8)

5. But what about those who are sincere in their wrong beliefs?

The words of our Lord Yeshua:

13 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. (Greek: polus, the great majority)

14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few (Greek: oligos, a tiny number).

15 Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.

16 You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

17 So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit.

18 A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit.

19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

20 Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.

21 Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’

23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness (Torahlessness). – Matthew 7:13-23

6. But in the Tanakh (“Old Testament”), wasn’t there a way of atoning for unintentional violations of Torah?

Yes. But it required that the sinner become aware of his or her violation, admit it, repent, and make the required sin offering in public, through the Hebraic priesthood in the Temple. Failure to do this resulted in their being “cut off from Israel”, which was expulsion from the community and the Covenant. (Leviticus 5:17-19 – KJV)

17 “If anyone sins, doing any of the things that by YHVH’s commandments ought not to be done, though he did not know it, he shall bear his iniquity.

18 He shall bring to the priest a ram without blemish out of the flock, or its equivalent for a guilt offering, and the priest shall make atonement for him for the mistake that he made unintentionally, and he shall be forgiven.

19 It is a guilt offering; he has indeed incurred guilt before YHVH.”

This applies to those who, after a sin/disobedience which they did ignorantly, and then realize their error, they repent of it, and make the required public sacrifices, which are a form of confession. Since the Temple was destroyed in 70AD, there is no way for these required sacrifices, etc., to be performed, unless one has a bona fide relationship to the Father YHVH Elohim through His Son, our Lord Yeshua. And, as our Lord Yeshua warns us all in Matthew 7:13-23 above, he has no such relationship with anyone who disobeys ANY of the commandments (Torah).

This is why it is so important for all who “name the name of Yeshua” (i.e., who claim to have made him their Lord) to KNOW the Law/Torah. We are all personally responsible for our actions and beliefs.

This is why the written Torah of Moses – “the Law” – is so important, and why the children of Israel were required to: (a) know it themselves; and (b) teach it to their children! Salvation (or deliverance) – for them and for us – was and is entirely dependent on being in agreement with God, and if one is ignorant of what YHVH Elohim requires of us, how can we possibly be in agreement with Him? This is why ignorance of Torah/“the Law” is no excuse.

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does YHVH require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your Elohim?” (Micah 6:8)

In Hebraic thought, to “walk with someone” is to be in complete agreement with them! But in the absence of one’s knowledge of the Creator’s written Torah, each of us will walk according to our own preferences, following preachers who “tickle our ears” (2 Timothy 4:3) to keep us following them. And, exactly according to prophecy, they will “make merchandise of you” (2 Peter 2:1-3). And such are without excuse. (Romans 1:20) If they are without excuse, then both the false teachers and all who follow them are already condemned. In this, how are the “deity” of Yeshua, the “Trinity”, and all the rest of UNbiblical “Christianity” not ALSO “commandments of men, taught as doctrine” for which Yeshua called the Pharisees “the sons of your father, the devil”? (John 8:44)

Satan works to get as much of mankind steered away from following the written Torah of YHVH and from following our Lord Yeshua’s commandments, as he possibly can. Satan’s ONLY weapon against mankind is the lie. It started in the Garden of Eden, and he has not changed his ways in all the millennia since then. He has not had to. Lies are deceptions designed to get us to voluntarily act contrary to the Father’s will for us. Satan is described as a serpent in the Genesis account, not because he was in the shape of a snake, but because he operates in the same way that a poisonous snake does.

I (YHVH) will put enmity (opposition) between you (Satan) and the Woman (a symbol for all Jews and Gentile disciples of Yeshua who are Torah-true), and between your (Satan’s) offspring (those who partake of Satan’s nature) and her offspring (those who are joined to Israel through the Renewed Covenant in Yeshua’s blood); he (Yeshua) shall bruise your (Satan’s) head, and you (Satan) shall bruise his (Yeshua’s) heel.” – Genesis 3:15

Exactly as prophesied in the very opening verses of the Bible, Satan has been injecting his poison (lies) into the Body of Christ since the Garden of Eden, and into that specific part of the Body of Christ which is in contact with the earth, the heel. One might even say, into the earthly or carnal part of the Body of Christ. This would be those people who are most interested in getting the benefits of a religious belief system (feeling good about oneself, the fellowship of like-minded deceivees, etc.,) while retaining as many of their fleshly traditional practices as possible. Some of these would necessarily include eating pork (which the God of the Bible describes as an abomination – Leviticus 11:11), celebrating “Christmas”, “Easter”, “Lent”, “Halloween”, etc. (which are all 100% pagan practices prohibited by the Bible, either explicitly or as types!), plus birthdays and anniversaries of all kinds. And our Lord Yeshua, quoting Isaiah quoting the Father in Isaiah 29:13:

And he said to them, “Well did Isaiah (Isaiah 29:13) prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, ‘This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me; in vain do they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.” (Mark 7:6-8)

And, as we have seen, our Lord is even more explicit in describing the scene at the Last Judgment, when all those who have been “movers and shakers” in their various false denominations are finally and inescapably brought face to face with the eternal consequences of their errors:

15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.

21 “Not everyone who merely calls me Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’

23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you who practice lawlessness (or, Torah-lessness). (Matthew 7:15-23)

In short, we have been unable to find any scriptures in either the Tanakh (“Old Testament”) OR the Renewed Covenant Scriptures (“New Testament”) which even hint at the deliverance or salvation of anyone who ignorantly continues in the practice of what the Bible describes as sin.

3 And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments.

4 Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him,

5 but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him:

6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. (1 John 2:3-6)

and this:

Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness (or, Torah-lessness); sin is lawlessness (or, Torah-lessness). 1 John 3:4

From all of this we must see that “ignorance of the law is no excuse”, the legal principle from English Common Law, actually has its roots in the Hebrew Torah/Tanakh (“Old Testament”). In this case, according to the Bible, ignorance of Torah is no excuse.

But according to the Renewed Covenant Scriptures (“New Testament”), forgiveness for all sins is 100% conditional, and 100% dependent on our repentence and confession of our sins. . .

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Yeshua his Son cleanses us from all sin.

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. – 1 John 1:5-10

In order to have any hope of avoiding the penalties for disobedience which are documented throughout the “Old” and “New” Testaments, one must be able to point to at least ONE example of our Father OR our Lord Yeshua actually excusing (or ignoring) unrepented disobedience to a commandment. We have been unable to find a single instance. If you find one, will you please contact us with the information?

We pray that this study will be helpful to you and yours as you seek our Father’s will for your lives.

Shalom aleichem!

(Peace be unto you!)
